Barn-with-Wood

District in the south-east of the City of Metz in the Moselle of a surface of 201 ha (4,8% of Metz), cash 4.864 inhabitants (3.9% of the total population of Metz) for approximately 1.511 residences (2.6% of the number of residences of Metz).

Barn-with-Wood offers today to Metz a district with whole share with its equipment and its activities. Moreover, its privileged framework of forests and its proximity with the Technopolis of Metz, give him a particular identity which dissociates other districts of the city.

History

Agricultural territory of the old commune of Borny, the district of Barn-with-Wood was created of any part in 1974.

This district, in a program of 1900 residences, proposes with the residents of Metz " the countryside with the ville".

Worked out in the form of a Reach Development Concerted (ZAC) of 185 hectares, its urbanization was conceded with a public developer: the Office of Urban renovation of Metz, company of mixed economy become SAREM thereafter.

In 1981, a bipolar party of installation called into question the organization of the southern part, which rests from now on around a center of equipment and trade.

In 1985, in order to start again construction, a new development scheme of the northern part gave the priority to public spaces and offered a larger variety in the types of habitat.

In 1994, the regulation of the northern sector adapts to the profit of programs of houses (allotments), corresponding better at the request of the inhabitants.

In 2000, a last modification must allow the completion of this ZAC.

Geography

The district is registered upstream valley of the Gutter (213m) in the south-east of Metz.

It is surrounded by many wood which marks its slopes:

  • Northern, with the wood of Maccabée and the wood of the Lady (244m).
  • Is, with the wood of Aubigny (240m).
