Bardos

Bardos is a common French, located in the department of the Yrénées-Atlantiques and the area Aquitaine.

Located in the province of the Labourd, Bardos belongs to the Basque Country.

Its name Basque is Bardoze .

Hydrography

The grounds of the commune are sprinkled by two affluents of the Adour, the Joyeuse and the Bidouze.
Affluents of Merry, the Marmareko erreka, the brooks of Lartasso and Termi and Eyhéracharko erreka as well as the tributary of this last, the Ithurriague brook, also cross the commune.
Finally affluents of Bidouze, the brooks of Armoun and the Lihoury and the tributaries of this one, the brooks Arbéroue (as well as the affluent of this last, the brook of Jouan de Pès) and Gelous (as well as the affluent of this last, the Soft food brook), are also present on the territory of Bardos.

The toponym Bardos is mentioned in XIIIe century (cartulaire of Bayonne), and appears in the form Sancta Maria de Bardos (1693, collations of the diocese of Bayonne).

History

Paul Raymond note that Bardos was a baronnie concerning Duché of Gramont.
In 1790, Bardos was the chief town of a canton including/understanding the communes of Bardos and Guiche, which depended on the district of Ustaritz.

The Brasserie of the Basque Country is installed in Bardos.
Until the XIXe century, Bardos was re-elected for its concise activity.

Culture and inheritance

Civil inheritance

The castle of Salha dates from the XVIIe siècle.
Bardos has farms dating from XVIe, XVIIe and XVIIIe siècles.
The old town hall, in activity until in 1982, date of the XVIIIe siècle.
One also finds houses of Master of XVIe, XVIIe and XVIIIe siècles.
The manor says castle of Miremont dates from XVe century. The Miremont site, to 188 meters of altitude, offers a panoramic sight on the Pyrenees and Landes.
