The barbet spaniel is a Chien of water French. It belongs to group 8 (Dogs rapporteurs of game - Dogs leveurs of game - Dogs of water). It is the ancestor of the Caniche and many other dogs, as scratch them for examples.

Description

It can be several colors, but the principal one is the black. One meets also brown barbet spaniels and sands, but they are rarer. White spots are tolerated. The hair of the barbet spaniel is curly with slightly corrugated tendency. It must have on average a 5 cm length. The size of the barbet spaniel must be 53 to 61 cm with the garrot for a female and 58 to 65 cm with the garrot for a male (Standard FCI 2006).

Character

In the beginning, this dog was used as Gun dog in marsh, but it is at present mainly used as dog of company. Dog calms inside, it likes to be spent outside. It is a sporting dog which will appreciate trott them with foot, bicycle or horse and which will not be made request for a course of Agility

Care

The barbet spaniel must be brushed once per week. Its hair must also be recut with the scissors approximately all both or three months to keep a reasonable size. One can also mow it, generally with twice a year.
