Barbershop

The style of Harmonie called Barbershop, codified during the time of its revival (1940 - present) is a style has cappella, or not accompanied vocal music, which has an origin Afro-américain E. It is born in the barbers who play at beginning of the 20th century a aggrégatif part in this community. This style of music is also related to the Gospel.
It is characterized by four part S of agreement S consonants for each melody note in a homophonic texture mainly . Each part has its own role: in theory, the lead sings the melody, the Ténor harmonizes on the melody, the low sings the most serious notes of harmony and the Baryton supplements the agreement. The melody is not sung in general by the tenor or the low one, with share for one or two not very frequent notes in order to avoid a strange melody voice. Certain briefs passages can be sung per less than four voix.
The Barbershop style is the subject of competitions in the USA and Canada. If musical quality is paramount there, the visual aspect of the singers is also noted there and one notices in the groups of barbershop style a vestimentary research (sometimes doubtful) and attitudes, mimicry in the gestural one, appropriate to songs which speak about love for much of them. In Canada, the Barbershop style is very present. In France this music is the subject of trainings of singers but one finds some four-bit bytes amateurs of harmony and humor.
