Barberaz
Barberaz is a common French, located in the department of the Savoy and the area the Rhone-Alps.
Like all places coming from the Savoyard, “Z” final does not decide (to say Barbera ), even if many Chambériens do not do it systematically. It belongs to the agglomeration chambérienne as well as Chambéry Métropole.
This commune has three schools, a public library, a post office, a multiaccueil (for the reception of the 3 month old small children to 6 years of a capacity of 18 places) and a police station.
Geography
Barberaz is located at the south-east of Chambéry, city against which it is coupled (there is no distance between the two communes). Its 379 hectares are répendus on the dish of the basin chambérien and has only one light coast on the versan of the Charmettes . The commune between-others is crossed by the Leysse of is in west (it marks besides separation with Bassens) and by the Albanne of the south in north, and being thrown in Leysse 500m beyond its northern edge. The commune of Barberaz also comprises an interesting point: it is cut right through by the urban clearway of Chambéry and the railway line, which causes to offset certain districts, like the Madeleine , of the downtown area, accessible by a single road into underground. But it is also the case of the Vernier or the Lésine , which although separated by any natural barrier or human, are located at more than 2 km more at the south.
History
The village of Barberaz was rested by a person who at the time (approximately 3rd century) was foreign with the Roman Empire (Chambéry was already the alpine crossroads of the Roman army). The name given then to these people corresponded in our current term of " barbare". Its territory took this name with him and evolved/moved until Barberaz with the Savoyard.Until the 18th century, the life was rather organized on the mountainous part, most of the territory (the plain) being between-others made up of Tourbe and others Marais towards the two rivers preventing any installation.

Significance of the blazon
The tower represents the residences that the noble ones and the middle-class men chambériens had made build on the slope to seek there in summer nature and freshness. The ashy cranes live in group under the guard of one as of their, the " vigilance " carrying a stone; if this one falls asleep, the stone falls, awaking the others. Vigilance, it is Sainte Madeleine which formerly since the vault of Maladière took care on all the plain to which it gave the name.
The leopard symbolizes the name of the commune which would come from the field that a barbarian (a foreigner) would have had formerly. With the lion of the Roman Empire Christian one could thus oppose the leopard.
The sheets of oak are the representation of the slope, formerly covered of forests of chestnuts and oaks. They is there that the first inhabitants of Barberaz settled, the marshy plain remaining during long centuries. And of course, in the middle of the blazon the Croix of Savoy recalls the membership of the commune to the old Duchy and the current department.
