Barbara Boxer
Barbara Levy Boxer (born in 1940) is an American political woman progressist, member of the Democratic party and senator of California to the Sénat of the United States since 1992. Classified on the left, Feminist and liberal (with the American direction of the term), Barbara Boxer defends environmental protection, the control of the firearms and the rights of the minorities.
Biography
Barbara Levy was born the November 11th 1940 in the borough from Brooklyn with New York.
Graduate in economy, journalist, Barbara Boxer one is initially elected of the county of Sailor in the north of San Francisco before being elected with Chambre of the Representatives of the United States during 10 years.
In 1992, it is elected senator de Californie with the Senate of the United States, and is re-elected in 1998.
In 2004, after having to announce its withdrawal of the senate, it finally states to continue the political combat against the conservatives of the type of Tom DeLay and is represented and is re-elected with 58% of the voices compared with 37% with the republican conservative Bill Jones.
In January 2005, it is one of the two members of Parliament to be objected to the certification of the electoral results of the Ohio having given the victory to the president George W. Bush against John Kerry.
Barbara Boxer is known to be a détractrice of the administration of George W. Bush of which it disputes the integrity. She voted against the confirmation at the post of Secretary of State of Condoleezza Rice and at the station of Attorney General, of Alberto R. Gonzales.
By these votes, Boxer became the icon of the movements liberal activists (of left).
Catalogued like liberal democrat or progressist, she is elected with the seat of the old republican president Richard Nixon. She voted in 2001 for the law Patriot Act.
Barbara Levy married with Stewart Boxer of which it had two children. In 1994, his/her daughter Nicole Boxer, married with the White House, Tony Rodham, the brother of Hillary Clinton, with which it will have a son and which it will divorce in 2000.
