Bar of Quebec
The Barreau of Quebec is the Barreau for lawyers of the Quebec. This professional corporation was founded the May 30th 1849 under the name of Barreau of the Low-Canada. It is governed by the Code of the professions and the Law of the Bar. In 2006, its 21 000 members practice a public Droit of British origin and a Private law of French origin, a mixed tradition inherited the Acte of Quebec of 1774.
Its mission is to protect the public by control from the exercise of the occupation of lawyer and to defend the legal provision and the democratic values. At the beginning of the 20th century, the French Canadian important was largely concentrated in three great professions: lawyer S, Doctor S and priest S. the Bar thus played a part of social cohesion.
The first woman is allowed with the Bar the April 29th 1941. 45% of the members are now women. The Bar frequently intervenes at the time of big events in Quebec (for example, the Crise of Oka and a Mégaprocès implying the Hell' S Angels) and of the Canadian federation. It is favorable to the increase in Legal aid, the legislation on the Homosexual marriage and to the transparency compared to the Lobbyisme. In an official statement of 2004, it announces a walk against the Capital punishment.
The Bar admits members coming from six Faculty of Law of the universities Laval, McGill, of Montreal, of Ottawa, of Sherbrooke and UQAM. The graduates supplement their formation with the École of the bar. They can belong to the many statutory committees of the Bar.
This professional body publishes a Journal of the Bar and a Revue Bar . It offers a research service of Jurisprudence to its members. In 2007, its barristers president is Me J. Michel Doyon.
In the honor of the 400e birthday of Quebec, the Congress of the Bar of Quebec will take place with Quebec from May 28th to May 31st 2008.

- any other reason considered to be relevant.
