Banwa was one of the components of the district of Kekem. The administrative unit of the district of Banwa was created in 1992 per order in Council N°92/206 of October 5th, 1992. Then, by N°094/009 decree of June 12th, 1994, the Head of the State fixes the territorial spring of this district on ten chefferies of 2nd and 3rd degree.

The heavy axis Douala - Bafoussam crosses this locality in particular to the place says Moumée-Market until the place place named Pont on Moumée. Just on this level the main axis opens towards its chief place Banwa Center to 12 km. This district counts to surroundings 35.000 inhabitants. Its population in majority Banwa is very dynamic. Agriculture remains the principal activity in particular the culture of the coffee, the cocoa and the palm tree with oil from where the name comes.
