Banque Populaire

The group Banque Populaire is a banking group and financial composed of Banques Populaires regional, and its specialized cases (BRED…), of the co-operative Credit (for the social economy), of the maritime Credit, CASDEN (for the personnel of state education, research and the culture), of ACEF (for the civils servant), of ESA (for the students), as of the Federal Bank of Banques Populaires, central body of the group. It codétient Natixis (resulting from the bringing together of Ixis and Natexis Banques Populaires) with the group Savings bank.

History

This group mutualist was born at the beginning of the 20th century, with the concern of getting to the individual contractors (craftsmen, tradesmen, liberal professions, SME,…) the offer of service banking that refused to them, often, commercial large banks.

Key dates:

  • 1878: Creation of the first Banque Populaire in Angers;
  • 1917: Adoption of the co-operative statute of Banques Populaires;
  • 1921: Creation of the Central Case of Banques Populaires;
  • 1970: Creation of ACEF;
  • 1974: Creation of CASDEN;
  • 1999: Birth of Natexis Banques Populaires; the Central Case of Banques Populaires becomes the Federal Bank of Banques Populaires (BFBP).
  • 2002: Acquisition of Coface;
  • 2006: Birth of Natixis;
  • 2007: Creation of ESA (Autonomy and solidarity for the students).

Activities

Banques Populaires remained very established in the sector of the company, with close to SME on three, in France, customer of the group. Natixis supplements this approach, with customers of great industry groups and commercial, in France like abroad. The Banque Populaire group is also placed like the first bank of the sailor-fishermen, the bank of a teacher on two, a craftsman on three, and more than 150.000 associations to France.

Regional vocation

Their origins, Banques Populaires preserved the practice of a true regional activity all while developing it. This regional anchoring is reinforced by the fact that the administrators of Banques Populaires maintain all the close relationships with the local socio-professional organizations and consular organizations. In addition, the customers members take part in the capital (co-operative statute). They are thus the guarantors of the independence of their bank and the means of its development bring to him.

Sponsorship

For more than fifteen years, the Banque Populaire Group has been present in the universe of the veil. It is today one of the actors and major partners of this sport. It falls under the spirits as the “Bank of the Veil”:
  • partner of the French federation of veil;
  • sponsor of Pascal Bidégorry and the Banque Populaire trimaran which takes part in the Championship of the World of the Multihulls;
  • sponsor of Jeanne Gregoire and the monoshell Banque Populaire Barber in string for the circuit Bénéteau Barber;
  • sponsor of Faustine Merret, gold medal in board with veil Mistral with the last Olympic Games of Athens, it signed an partnership agreement and is thus supported in its challenge to conquer a new gold medal with the Olympic Games of Beijing;
  • partner of association Eric Tabarly since the year 2003, the Banque Populaire Group takes part in the maintenance of the mythical fleet of the one of the most famous sailors of the world. It thus helps to perennialize the history of the race to broad while taking part in the conservation of a national nautical inheritance.

Current events

In March 2006, a bringing together is announced with the group Savings bank: this fusion, is initially limited to the perimeter of the bank of investment and thus relates to subsidiary companies IXIS of the Savings bank and Natexis of Banques Populaires. The bringing together took place on October 25th, 2006 by the marketing of Natixis.

In January 2007, the Banque Populaire group acquires Foncia and thus takes a strategic position and strong in the service sector with the real estate with its network of 300 cabinets.
