Banksia subg. Isostylis
Banksia subg. Isostylis is a sub-genus of Banksia . It gathers three narrowly related species, all endemic of the South-western of the Western Australia. Let us tax with the sub-genus Isostylis are distinguished because they do not have large floral ears and the infrutescences in the shape of “cones” usually characteristic of the kind Banksia . The flowers on the contrary are grouped of flowerheads in the shape of dome, similar to the Inflorescence of the species of the kind Dryandra . The surface resemblance of the inflorescences of Isostylis to those of the kind Dryandra resulted in suggesting that this sub-genus was to be transferred in the kind Dryandra . However, beyond this resemblance, Isostylis is much more common with Banksia than with Dryandra . If a change were to intervene in the future, it would be more probably that to promote Isostylis with the row of kind.
It is generally admitted that the sub-genus Isostylis provides an intermediary evolution naire between Banksia and Dryandra , but the details are still discussed. Most recent taxonomic classification of the kind '' Banksia '' is founded on the assumption that Banksia sets up the most primitive group; that Isostylis is the most advanced group of the kind Banksia ; and that Dryandra is even more advanced. There exist two other assumptions: first is that Dryanda would be the most primitive group, followed by Isostylis and then by the other species of Banksia ; the other is that Isostylis would be the most primitive group, and that Dryandra and Banksia has Co-advanced starting from an ancestor of the type Isostylis .
There are three species of Banksia subg. Isostylis . The banksia with sheets of houx, Banksia ilicifolia , is widely distributed and relatively commun run. The two other species, Banksia cuneata and Banksia oligantha , rare and are threatened, and are protected within the framework from the Australian law on protection from environment and safeguarding from the biodiversity from 1999.
