Bandung (or Bandoeng in Dutch and Indonésien until in 1947) is a town of Indonesia in the west of the island of Java. It is the capital of the Java-Western province of . It has the statute of kota (municipality) and is directed by a walikota elected by the municipal assembly, itself elected by the direct suffrage.
Its surface is of 168 km ². Its population was of 2.511.000 in 2004, that is to say a density of 15.500 habitants/km ².
Bandung is known for the Conférence of Bandoeng which was held there in 1955.
History

1488 : according to the tradition, foundation at the time of the kingdom of Pajajaran.
- 1799 : VOC (company Dutchwoman of the Eastern Indies) is declared in bankruptcy by the Dutch government, which takes again its credits. For this period, the bupati (prefect) of Bandung is the count Wiranatakusumah.
- 1808 : Hermann Willem Daendels, named governor-general of the Indies Dutchwomen by Louis Bonaparte, king de Hollande, reforms the colonial administration and makes build a main road (Postweg) connecting the west of Java to the east.
- 1809 : the bupati of Bandung orders the delocalization of the town of Karapyak at the edge of Cikapundung.
- 1810 : Daendels marks the central point of Bandung with a stick, while declaring, “Zorg, dat als ik terug kom yesterday een stad is gebouwd!” (Paid attention, when I turn over, a city will be built here).
- May 25th 1810: Daendels orders that the regents of Bandung and Parakanmuncang delocalize the capital with the indicated area.
- September 25th 1810: Daendels announced the delocalization of the capital. This date is commemorated like the birthday of the town of Bandung.
