Bandage lombarde
Bands lombardes , synonymous with lesenes . Elements of architecture characteristic of the Romance time. They are bands vertical, similar to Pilastre S, but of very weak projection, repeated with regular intervals on the walls of the frontages, the turns or the apses, which are connected to their top by a plank of Arcature S in semicircular arch. The bands lombardes have, at least at the origin, a role of stiffening of the wall (and not, like the buttresses, thicker, of support). By their light relief, their simplicity, the bands lombardes are especially a decorative piece. The term of “lombard” watch the origin of these reasons. Romanesque art, resulting from Lombardy - Italy of north probably crossed the Alps at the same time as the architects and are companion-workmen. These bands lombardes are universal in the Romanesque art and one finds them everywhere in Europe during all this time.
