Bandafassi is a locality of the Eastern Senegal.

History

Administration

Bandafassi is a rural community and a chief town of district of the Département of Kédougou, in the area of Tambacounda.

Two villages of CR carry also this name, Bandafassi Peulh and Bandafassi Tanda.

Geography

The closest localities are Landieni, Patassi, Guinngara, Silakounda, Etato, Eatika, Oundoukoni and Angueniapissa.

Population

The rural community is in country Bédik, from where the name of Bandafassi Tanda (= tenda , i.e. bédik), but part of the population is of origin peul, from where the name of Bandafassi Peulh.

According to the PEPAM (Programme of drinking water and cleansing of the Millenium), the rural community of Bandafassi counts 21.764 people and 2.361 households.

The same source allots to Bandafassi Peulh 469 inhabitants and 51 households, and to Bandafassi Tanda 374 people for 41 households.

An observatory of population and health (Bandafassi DSS) produced very detailed demographic studies.

Economic activities

One finds in Bandafassi an important layer of Marbre, of decorative high-quality, whose reserves are estimated at 4  320 million tons.

In 2002, a Festival of the minority ethnos groups in Senegal was created in Bandafassi.
