Banatska Palanka

Banatska Palanka , in Serb Cyrillic Sr БанатскаПаланка and in Hungarian hu Palánk, is a village of Serbia located in the autonomous province of Voïvodine. It belongs to the municipality of Bela Crkva in the district of the southernmost Banat. In 2002, it counted 837 inhabitants, of which a majority of Serbes.

History

Banatska Palanka (“Plessis of Banat”) is an old locality since it was founded at the 17th century. However, the oldest locality of the area remains Stara Palanka, which is located at the confluence of the Nera and the the Danube.

At the beginning of the 19th century, Banatska Palanka was an important port on the Danube. Since then, its population did not cease decreasing since, Stara Palanka, it takes into account nothing any more but 837 inhabitants.

Characteristics

The saving in Banatska Palanka is mainly directed towards agriculture. Stara Palanka, on its side, became a tourist center (including hotels, restaurants, installations for the sport…).
