Banassac

Banassac is a common French, located in the department of the Lozere and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Its inhabitants is called Banassacois.

Geography

Contiguous to the commune of Canourgue, Banassac is located at the confluence of the Urugne and the Lot.

History

Of origin Gallo-Roman E, Banassac was at that time an important center of manufacture of ceramic sigillées. The commune was also, at the time mérovingienne, a center of striking of currency: close to a tenth of the preserved or found currencies going back to this time come from it.
