Banana , sometimes Banana , is a port of the Democratic republic of Congo, located at the mouth of the river with the Atlantic Ocean, in the province of the Low-Congo. The city lodges a refinery of the Congolese Company of Industries of Refining, SOCIR (old SOZIR = Société Zairo-Italian of Refining). One also finds there two development companies oil of which Muanda International Oil Company (MIOC) offshore and Perenco-REFERENCE MARK in onshore.

Banana is undoubtedly the oldest colonial station of Congo, occupied by Europeans since the beginning of the 19th century. Ruins of this first establishment can still be observed the different with dimensions one of bay, in the south-east of current Banana.

Geography

The port of Banana is on a spit of land located at the mouth of the Congo river:
  • in the west, the Atlantic Ocean and its oil platforms;
  • in the east, a large sheltered bay separates the current port from the place of old colonial counters. By going up the river, one reaches Boma out of Right Bank and Matadi out of left bank;
  • in north, ten kilometers, the town of Moanda;
  • in the south, the mouth of the river and the coast of the Angola to a score of kilometers. Vis-a-vis Banana the port of Soyo is.
