Ban Ki-moon

Ban Ki-moon (delivery GUI mun}}) (June 13rd, 1944 -) is a diplomat and South Korean Politician , eighth General secretary of the United Nations since January 1st, 2007, succeeding Kofi Annan. He was Foreign Minister and of the Trade of his country of January 2004 to November 1st, 2006.

About Korean native tongue, Ban usually speaks English and, according to his services, “also French and has good concepts of German and Japanese”.

Biography

Ban Ki-moon was born the June 13rd 1944, with Eumseong, in South Korea. it is resulting from a country family.

It obtains a license in International relations of the National university of Seoul in 1970 , then a control in public administration in John F. Kennedy School off Government of the University Harvard in 1985.

In 1978, it is named First secretary of the South Korean mission at UNO where he becomes director of the office of the United Nations at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. In 1996, he becomes adviser with the national security of Kim Young-Sam. At this station, he works with the adoption of the resolution condemning the Attentats of September 11th, 2001.

With the head of the South Korean diplomacy since January 2004, it is one of the Foreign Ministers who held longest with this poste, , by acclamation. December 14th, 2006, it lends oath in front of the 192 members of the assemblée., and was said entirely responsible in future management for the General secretary.

Its mandate should be completed the December 31st 2011. , it was called " the eel glissante" (or " the eel insaisissable" ) for its capacity to elude the embarrassing questions of the South Korean journalists.

Interventions as a General secretary of UNO

At the time of her first official day as a General secretary of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon adopted a very moderate position concerning the execution of Saddam Hussein. The capital punishment was hitherto condemned by UNO, judgment recalled by Ashraf Qazi, which reaffirmed just after the hanging of Saddam Hussein, how much the organization is opposite “with the capital punishment, even in the cases of war crimes, against humanity or of genocide” . Ban Ki-moon indicated that “the question of the capital punishment remains the decision of each Member State” and the prohibition of the capital punishment by UNO did not mention.
