Bamboo plantation of Prafrance
The Bamboo plantation of Prafrance (known also under the name " Bamboo plantation of Anduze") is a single exotic garden in Europe particularly famous for its forest of bamboos. This field of a surface of 34 hectares, is located in the Gard, to 11 km in the south-west of Alès and to 2 km in the north of Anduze, on which were planted Bambou S starting from 1856 by Eugene Mazel.
It is a park open to the public, which includes/understands:
- a forest of giant bamboos
- bambousarium: propose on a small surface a selection of various species of bamboos present on the site
- a garden of Japanese inspiration
- a labyrinth
- a Laotian village
- the small valley of the dragon: this garden Zen extends on 15.000m ² and puts back on the principles of the Feng Shui
- a greenhouse
- a floral garden
The bamboos thrived so well in this site, which profits from a particular Microclimat, that they form true a Jungle. This park was used as framework for the turning of several Film S, of which Wages of the fear according to the novel of Georges Arnaud, and " Paul and Virginie".
For a few years, with the manner of many other contemporary gardens, the site has accommodated installations of artists, more or less perennial or transitory.
