Baltasar Carlos of Spain
Baltasar Carlos of Spain (October 17th 1629 - March 9th 1646) is the son of the Spanish king Philippe IV and of his first wife Elisabeth de France.
Since he was the only male child resulting from the first marriage of Philippe, Baltasar had vocation to succeed to him the throne. But it found death in 1646 at the sixteen years age, probably of the continuations of a Appendicite. The new successor with the throne then became his half-brother born in 1661, future Charles II of Spain.
From a historical point of view, Baltasar Carlos did not play any important role. It was however painted very often by the painter Diego Vélasquez. The tables carried out, of a great sensitivity, count among the most beautiful portraits of child of the era baroque.
