Ballymore Stadium

The Ballymore Stadium is a stage mainly devoted to the Rugby with XV located at Herston, in the suburbs of Brisbane, capital of the State of Queensland, in Australia.

Capacity and teams resident

Of a capacity of 24.000 places, Ballymore was the principal stage of Queensland a long time. He is still regarded today as the heart of the Rugby of the State.

Between 1966 and 2006, Ballymore was the stage fetish of the Queensland Reds, before those move for largest and more modern Suncorp Stadium. The national team of Australia regularly received there her adversaries and certain clubs of Brisbane evolve/move there occasionally, in particular at the time of the finale of the Queensland the First Rugby. History

The stage is built in 1966 and the federation of Rugby with XV of Queensland, the Queensland Rugby Union, obtains State the right to install its seat on the site. August 14th, 1993, 26.000 people pile up in Ballymore to see the Springboks South Africa facing the Wallabies for their return on the Australian ground after the years of boycott (Australian victory 28-20). In 1994 the first match into night takes place.

In 2006, Queensland Reds play their last matches there. A project, supported by the Australian federation, that of Queensland and the public authority were announced to make of Ballymore a center of drive to the point of the modernism for the Australian rugbymen and the countries of the Asia-Pacific zone. This center would take as a starting point the National center of Rugby French of Linas-Marcoussis. A museum, a “Hall off Famed” paying homage to the large players of passed and a center of historical files are considered, just like a medical complex, a gymnasium, a watery center and a residence for the teams in training course.
