Ballistics
see also: Etymology of Ballistics
The ballistic is the Science which has as an aim the motion study of the projectiles.
Approaches mathematical
Ballistics is a particular case of a Mouvement Uniformly Accelerated (MUA) when acceleration is equal to that of the Pesanteur, expressed by the constant directed downwards.
One can then pose in a orthonormée vectorial base:
The range reached by the projectile is expressed by (here it is not a question of vectors):
with initial speed and the initial angle of inclination compared to the horizontal one.
Fields of study
One distinguishes:
- the interior ballistic , whose object is the whole of the phenomena occurring inside the gun (movement of the projectile, relaxation of gases…)
- the external Ballistic , whose object is the movement of a projectile àmath>. With short range, one can be unaware of the curve of the ground and use the formulation described above. However the description of the trajectory of a Ballistic missile with long range requires a correction taking account of the terrestrial curve.
