Ballarat
Ballarat (: 85197 inhabitants) is the most important city (" city") continental of the State of Victoria, in Australia. It is, by its population, the third city of the state, behind Melbourne and Geelong, the third continental city of all Australia behind Canberra, the federal capital and Toowoomba, in the Queensland. It is located at approximately 120 km in the North-West of Melbourne. Located at 441 meters above the sea level, it occupies an administrative surface of approximately 740 km ², a built surface of approximately 75 km ².
History
The city occupies the site of an old ranch established in 1838 by William Cross Yuille and Henry Anderson and called “Ballaarat”, word derived from the language indigenous and meaning “camping”. One discovered there then Or, and a city was founded in the Années 1850. The surge of population and richnesses caused by the rush then made of Ballarat the most important city of Victoria. The many buildings hones some which are still visible in Ballarat testify to this old prosperity. It is the case in particular in the district of Lydiard Street, which contains some of the more good examples of architecture victorienne of the State, classified as such by the National Trust off Australia.
In 1930, the city had an aerodrome which strongly developed when one installed there the school of radios and artillerists of the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as well as the base of bombers during the second world war. Ballarat remains in the history as the birthplace of the only armed civil rising which Australia knew, the Soulèvement of Eureka (1854). A historical park and a memorial commemorate the event.

The city is connected to Melbourne by a highway and a service of trains rapids. The airport is in the course of modernization and of enlarging. The city has a service of bus and taxis.
