The play of ball to the tambourine is a Sport of racket implying two teams of five players. It is more often called tambourine . One speaks sometimes about ball to the tambourine or play of tambourine .
General information
Foundation with Lunel in 1860 of a team of play of tambourine, local version of the Play of palm. To note that the Italians assert the paternity of this typical sport of the Herault but also very practiced in Italy where the play is called palla tamburello . Today, the Italians claim that the play of ball to the tambourine dates from the Antiquité… the play of the ball to the tambourine remained a sport of Village in Herault whereas he is semi-professional in Italy. If the Italians lost the battle of the paternity of the play, on the other hand, they gained that of the payment while making adopt with the French players in 1955 the Italian payment called of “open play”.On the level of the prize list these last seasons, Italian supremacy on the play is undeniable, even if Héraultais remain solids adversaries. The France-Italy match constitutes each year " le" international match par excellence. In August 2005, the team of France has male inclined 13-1 vis-a-vis her counterpart transalpine, while at the female ones, the team of France has was binding 13-8 vis-a-vis the Italians. The matches took place this year in Italy. To note the presence, under sport of demonstration, of the ball to the tambourine with the Mediterranean Plays of 1993, disputed in Languedoc.
Recently, certain clubs also practice this sport of team out of the department of Herault, in the Gard, in Corrèze, with Narbonne, Toulouse and in the Rhone delta. There exist some attempts aiming at establishing this sport out of its zone of origin with in particular an opening in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais, in Beuvrages. Forty clubs are listed in France for some: 3000 bachelors. German and Belgian also practice but the level remains still low. The International federation was born in 1988.
Play
Equipment
- the ground in outside: a ground rectangle beaten, Tar 80 m length or synthetic (rare) on 18 m broad (20 m in the past). In the length, the ground is cut in its medium in two camps by a line called cord . The lines of limit of 10 cm broad belong to the ground. On the other hand, a ball which touches the cord will be always judged fault for the team which has just returned the ball. The alternative of this sport in interior uses a 34 m length ground on 16 m broad.
-
the tambourine: a circle, formerly of wood, today out of reinforced plastic of a copper wire on which is tended a synthetic fabric making it possible the ball to rebound. The behavior in hand is allowed by a handle in Cuir. Formerly, one used a skin of animal tended, in general of Chèvre.
-
the beater: Of a diameter of 18 cm and fixed at the end of a handle of 70 cm at one meter. It is used for the engagement of the ball and makes it possible to launch it at high speed. The current trend is with the abandonment of the beater: its handling is rather delicate and few young people are sensitized with his use.
-
the mandoline: it is a tambourine having a form close to the water drop. The handle is located at a extremity, the finest side. The mandoline is used only upon the engagement and at the same time makes it possible to engage further more easily and also to give effect to the ball. It is used very little in France; on the other hand, the Italians frequently use it.
Players
Two teams of five players each one clash, each one being held on its part of ground. The players are divided on the ground according to three roles. With more far from the camp of the adversary, two “funds” which as much as possible return the ball in the opposite camp. One of the two funds is the beater: it puts the ball concerned by using its tambourine, the beater or the mandoline then continues the play with a tambourine.
With more close to the line dividing into two the ground are two “rope-makers” who return the short balls of the adversary, they are named thus because at the time the line of centers was materialized by a cord. Their role is difficult and ungrateful: a vast majority of balls passes to them above, out of reach, and sometimes they see arriving of the balls very fast and very difficult to return. The ideal case is that where a bottom or the unfavourable third misses its striking. The ball arrives then rather slowly so that the rope-maker places and prepares a blow irratrapable by his adversaries.
In the middle of the half-ground, the “third” returns low possible the balls which the rope-makers could not take again. It is also used to return a little short balls for the funds. Ideally, the third only plays a ball to attack but it happens that he plays of the blows of defense if it were badly placed or if it were constrained (sun, wind).
Rules
Deduct points: knowing that the ball can rebound once before being struck, a team loses a point if:- the ball is not returned in the opposing side.
- the ball lands apart from the limits of the ground (the lines belong to the ground). If the ball touches the central line (the cord), it is also fault.
- the player touches the ball with another part of the body which the front armlever which holds the tambourine.
- two players of the same team touch the ball consecutively.
- a player goes in the opposing side.
The calculation is carried out in a way similar to the Tennis: by play, from 15 to 30 to 45, with rule of the advantage if there is equality with 45. The match is gained as soon as a team gained 16 plays. All the 3 plays, the teams change side and the service changes with each play. In order to prevent that the parts last for ever, the rule known as " point décisif" was installation in 2006: at the end of a play, there is not with but the two equalities with 45. With the second equality with 45, the team which gains the point gains the play.
