Balkh
Balkh (in Persian: بلخ), historical city of Afghanistan located in the province of Balkh, on the river Balkh-Ab. It is old the Bactres, capital of the historical Bactriane.
Balkh is the cradle of the family of the Barmécides, descendants of the superior of a Buddhist convent (it is the direction of the word Sanskrit paramaka ), which were with the service of the Abbassides and knew a brutal end under the reign of Haroun Al-Rachid (766 - 809); the vizier Ja `far Ben Yahyâ, familiar of the Caliph which appears at his sides in the Thousand and One Nights, belonged to the personalities carried out.
It is also the birthplace of the mystic and poet Djalal el DIN Rûmi (1207 - 1273), which flees with its family in front of Mongolian cataclysm of 1220 - 1222 and settled in Anatolia (current Turkey), with Konya (old Iconium ), where it founded the brotherhood of the mevlevis or " Dervish S tourneurs".
