Baleal

Baleal is a village located at the north of Barge, in area of the West of the Portugal, separated from the continent by a beach from fine white sand.

In the continuity of the split exist also the small island of the Doves.

The name Baleal comes from the function that these rocks played in the past of this place of fishing to the Baleine. This small island was the place of cutting-up of the whales captured during their migratrion of the North Sea.

The whales were a coveted target of the fishermen of the village of Atouguia da Baleia.

Inserted in the area of Barge, Baleal became important vacation resort and presents a vast range of possibilities of devoting itself to the water sports.

Had in their peninsular form, Baleal and Peniche offer single conditions in Europe for the practice of the Surfing and the Body-board. The place comprises schools where all the water sports are taught.

In August 2006 RTP 1 has to turn Praça da Alegria on the beach.
