Balaruc-the-Old man

Balaruc-the-Old man is a common French, located in the department of the Herault and the area Languedoc-Roussillon. Since December 31st, 2002, it belongs to the Communauté of agglomeration of the Basin of Thau. Its inhabitants is called Balarucois.

The animal totemic of Balaruc-the-Old man is the mullet ( lo mujol in Occitan).

The origin is in a conflict which opposed the bishop of Maguelonne, lord of Balaruc and the inhabitants about taxes to be paid on the fruits of fishing.
