The balances consist in selling with a strong reduction (annual stock sale) on the price, especially in clothing, the destocking of unsold goods of the former season.

“The balances support an accelerated flow of goods in Stock whose specimens have been proposed with the sale for at least a month and comprise a reduction in price, which can go until a resale at a loss, within the limit of stock to be run out. The balances can be realized only during two periods by Calendar year. ”

The dates of the balances are fixed, in each department, by the prefects, after consultation of the company doctors and of consumers. Their authorized maximum duration is six weeks.

The period of the balances changed more and more into festive event or of transgression of conventions, especially in the shops of luxury. Where the rules of the reception and the courtesy paramount, are reinforced by a commission on each sale, the salesmen have like mission of reducing comfort in particular by filtering the entries, masking the mirrors, while badgering for the use of the fitting rooms and, generally, to create an emergency atmosphere and almost of sporting event.

This ritual extends from now on to other fields including with the credit.

In the Anglo-Saxon world

In much of Anglo-Saxon country S, this promotional operation and aubaines traditionally take place the December 26th, entitled the Boxing Day (“day of the boxes”). The consumers devote themselves to a true free-for-all when the frenzy of purchase is with its paroxysm.

Kind of “balances”

When they are balances in store, balances is male plural. One thus does not write “exceptional pays”, but “exceptional balances”. Balance comes from remainder. The pay (female) is the amount of money paid with a soldier or a civil servant.

Reduction

  • with the theater where the first weeks of a spectacle see flowing the amateurs of tariffs to 50%;

  • in public transport where one offers reductions to young people, with oldest and the travellers between two ages provided that they are not esseulés;
  • on Internet where one can telephone almost free at the end of the world;
  • in the bookstores where the Livre of pocket divides by four the investment of the initial reader.
