Balaam

Balaam , false prophet of Péthor in Mésopotamie.

Celebrate Prophète or Devin about which the Écritures speak. Sent by Balak, king of Moab, to curse the Jews which, after having crossed the desert, crossed its territories towards the Pays of Canaan.

Whereas they approached, the soothsayer, gotten on a she-ass, from went away to their meeting; but while it was in way, a angel, holding a naked sword with the hand, was presented in front of the she-ass, which flees through fields and, gifted suddenly of the word, reproached its Master his safety. God opened the eyes of Balaam then; he blesses the people which he had the role of cursing. One places this fact about the year 1489 before the Christian era. It is also the name of a Hebrew Démon of avarice and cupidity.
