Baives

Baives is a common French, located in the department of the Northern and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Its inhabitants is called Baivois, Baivoises.

Geography

Located in Fagne Frenchwoman and at the South of Avesnois (Thiérache of North Frenchwoman), Baives is on the prolongation of the Belgian Calestienne, more precisely on the periclinal termination of this structure.

It is thus a calcareous environment, in which one finds in particular famous the " hone bleue" corresponding to the level givétien, called wrongly " marble bleu" , which marks the architecture of the Thiérache North, Belgian Thiérache, Fagnes and area of Givet.

One finds there the Mounts of Baives, very known site of the local botanists for a very rich calcicole flora, in particular in orchises, marked by the crossing of the continental climate and the southernmost character of a southern exposure of " grounds chaudes" limestones. The Mounts of Baives thus mark the Western limit of certain continental species. In addition, the Mounts of Baives mark the culminating point of North with 239 Mr.
