This folk musical genre of the Nordeste was transformed into urban popular music with the beginning of the year 1940 thanks to the work of the singer and type-setter Luiz Gonzaga, considered as the Rei C baião (“king of the baião”) and Humberto Teixeira, also called the Doutor C baião (“doctor of the baião”).

The large revealing one of the baião sung Brazilian popular music was Luiz Gonzaga. The majority of the songs in baião which had success on the Brazilian market consist of baiões sung by Luiz Gonzaga, Carmélia Alves, 4 Azes E 1 Coringa and Luiz Vieira.

On the other hand, the instrumental baião of Waldir de Azevedo opened the way with the diffusion of the rate/rhythm everywhere in the world.
