History of the Guianese bagne

Anecdotes

The expression “the skittle” in the military Jargon would come owing to the fact that the convicts authorized to return in metropolis made the return voyage on a boat called the Skittle . By extension, it passed in the language of called to the National service to express the idea of the return to the normal civil life.
