Bagne of Cayenne
Founded in 1863, the Bagne of Cayenne was located on the Anse of the Kitten , not far from the Point of Buzaré, with Cayenne in French Guiana. It was with him only representative of the Bagne of the French Guiana, but was however regarded as the least painful of them.
The installations of the penitentiary consisted of three hutments indicated under the name of Europe , Africa and Asia . It included/understood 4 dormitories, 19 prisons and 77 cells. As well as an infirmary, kitchens and of course of the residences for penitentiary staff.
The convicts were employed: either in public works (cleansing of the marshes or maintenance of the harbor installations), or with the service of the private individuals.
