Bafou
Bafou is a city of the Province of the West to the Cameroun.
It is one of largest the Chefferie the S of the Cameroun and largest of the department of Menoua.
The frontier villages of Bafou are: Bagang, Baleveng, Bamendou, Fotomena, Foto, Fongo-tongo, Fosimody and Bamoubock.
Reliefs
The principal tops of Bafou are four: Lekouet Lelieue, Lekouet Sessa, Lekouet Pokang and Lekouet Medjio.
Hydrography
Bafou is abundantly sprinkled by many brooks, in particular the Northern part and the districts of Nziih and Tchoutsi, which explains the prevalent cultures market-gardening S in this part and the existence of three complexes: CEIPS, CTE and EPA.
The principal rivers are Mia-mezo, Mianou, Mia-melieu, Mia-Meloung and Atioyem.
Etymology
Bafou is a made up name and of its direction we are in front of several interpretations.

Initially Ba , which would be the deformation by Europeans of the word pouo which means people of… then Fou (fouh) which would translate the verb to excavate, to seek . Thus, Pouo-Fouh (Bafou) would be the “people of people who seek, which excavates”.
- the suffix Fouh would mean to develop, to multiply like a mushroom, the Bafou would be thus people who develop and multiply like mushrooms.

Foto is a village of the rural district of Bafou . It constitutes one of the traditional Chefferie S of the country Bamiléké, in the neighborhoods of the towns of Dschang and Bafou.
The spoken language by its inhabitants is the dialect foto , resulting from the Bamiléké.
