Biography
Iveys record a single album in 1969: " Maybe Tomorrow". Then the group is signed by the label of the Beatles, Apple Records. John Lennon wants to rename them " Prix" while Paul McCartney prefers " Home". It will be finally Badfingfer , suggested by Neil Aspinall, in reference to “Bad finger boogy”, a title of work of the song With has Little Help From My Friends.Their first success is written by Paul McCartney and is recorded on December 5th 1969: Like and get it , song of the original soundtrack of the film The Magic Christian.
With George Harrison, Badfinger takes part in the recording of All Things Must Pass and are invited to the Concert for Bengla-Desh. They take part in certain sessions d'" Imagine" of John Lennon. Their album " No Dice" an excellent reception obtains. In 1971, the group leaves its album reference: " Straight up". This year there, Harry Nilsson takes again " Without you" and makes an international number 1 of it (this title will be also sung by Mariah Carey in 1993). The group is with its apogee.
However, after having left a last album, " Ass" , which includes/understands in particular " Apple off my eye" , Badfinger, while leaving Apple Body for the Warner, enters during one time which will be to him fatal. The group, badly produced and badly surrounded, badly starts its career under its new label, by carrying out the album " Badfinger" , which although containing a few good pieces (of which superb the " Lonely you") is a commercial failure.
The following album, " Wish you were here", recorded in 1974 with the Colorado, is accommodated by enthusiastic criticisms and is sold very honourably. But the legal problems put a term at the group, in spite of the recording of one 3rd album " Head first" , which will not be carried out due to legal continuations not launched by Warner Bros against Badfinger Enterprises, Inc. (the company of management of the group).
In prey with the depression, Pete Ham hangs in May 1975. After many attempts to perpetuate Badfinger (the discs " Airwaves" and " Say No more"), Tom Evans commits suicide same manner in 1983. In 1986, Molland and Gibbins reform Badfinger, until final separation in 1990.
Today, there exists a real renewed interest for Badfinger, which has made it possible to market " Badfinger in concert" , recording BBC of 1972 and 1973 and especially the new album " Head first" in 2000. In June 2006, in Swansea, a convention joined together Jackson, Griffiths, and various family members of Ham, Evans and Gibbins.
