Bade-Wurtemberg

The Bade-Wurtemberg (in German Baden-Württemberg ) is one of the Länder (States) composing the Germany. It is sometimes also called Pays of Bade in French (only in its Western part corresponding to old the Duché of Bade).

Bade-Wurtemberg is by its demographic and economic importance the third Land of Germany.

Its capital is Stuttgart, the most populated city and economically most important.

The tourist places most popular are the Black Forest ( Schwarzwald ), the Lac of Constancy ( Bodensee ), the the Jura souabe ( Schwäbische Alb ), the cloister of Maulbronn and the towns of Heidelberg, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Freiburg-in-Brisgau, Baden-Baden, Tübingen, Ulm and Constance.

Bade-Wurtemberg is bordering on the France and the Suisse. In Germany even, it is bordering on the Länder of the Rhineland-Palatinat, Hesse and Bavaria.

Economy

Bade-Wurtemberg counts among the most competitive areas economically in Europe. It is a center of auto industry (DaimlerChrysler, Porsche, Robert Bosch GMBH, Audi) with sites with Stuttgart, Sindelfingen, Neckarsulm, Mannheim, Rastatt, Gaggenau and Ulm. Many companies of the industry of mechanical engineering are there (Festo, Voith, Liebherr, Trumpf, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen). The precision mechanics, in particular the clock industry, exist there of long time (Junghans); more recently, of the production companies of consumer electronics were established (SHEBA, Dual). Bade-Wurtemberg was a long time a high place of the Textile industry, which preserves today still a certain importance at it (Hugo Boss, Trigema, Steiff). The unemployment rate of 5,6% (in February 2007) is weakest in Germany.

Bade-Wurtemberg counts two nuclear plants in activity, the Nuclear plant of Philippsburg and the Nuclear plant of Neckarwestheim. The Nuclear plant of Obrigheim was put out-service in 2005.

The Black Forest and the area of the lake of Constancy are important tourist destinations.
