Bad Reichenhall
Bad Reichenhall is a town of water and the administrative center of the Arrondissement of Berchtesgaden, district of High-Bavaria, Germany. It is located close to Salzburg in a basin surrounded of the Alps of Chiemgau (including the Mount Staufen (1771 m) and the Mount Zwiesel (1781 m)).
Bad Reichenhall is traditionally a production center of salt.
History
- the oldest traces of dwellings on the site go back to 2000 years before J.C
- 450 years before J. - C.: first exploitations of salt.
- 1136: foundation of the monastery of Saint Zénon
- In 1617-1619 a conduit of 31 km length wood brings the brine of Traunstein.
- 1834: Two thirds of the dwellings are destroyed by a fire.
- Beginning of the 19th century: beginning of tourism of cure
- 1890: Reichenhall is called “Bad Reichenhall”
- 1945: Bombardment, then the city is under American command of 1945 with 1948.
Recent events
January 2nd 2006: The roof of the skating rink built in 1971 crumbled under the weight of snow, making fifteen dead (three women and 12 children between 9 and 16 years). The municipality considered a restoration of the building built with a flat roof, badly adapted to the loads generated by the weight of snow.
