Bacteriemy

The bacteriemy is defined by the presence of a pathogenic organization (Bactérie S) in circulating blood, authenticated by positive Hémoculture S. This presence can be transitory or chronic. And can be accompanied by clinical sign or not.

A bacteriemy can be the starting point of a Syndrome of inflammatory answer systemic (SRIS), of a severe Sepsis or not, see in the most serious cases of a septic Choc.

A bacteriemy can be of origin Iatrogène, after a dental extraction, an endoscopy, an surgical operation or the handling of an infectious hearth. The germs pass the barrier of the vessels then and penetrate in blood circulation.

The diagnosis of a bacteriemy is done at the laboratory by the description of the germ on a Hémoculture.

The iatrogenic bactériémies can be prevented by a preventive Antibiothérapie or antibioprophylaxie.
