Back-light (photography)

In Photography, one says that there is “ back-light ” when the source of light is vis-a-vis the photographer and clarifies the subject by behind.

Problem generated by the back-light

The Flare

Because of the strong source of light of the spots of colors can appear on the photograph according to the angle and the objective. It is possible to play with these spots but they can also waste the photograph completely.

The objectives recent have treatments to limit the Flare.

A very broad dynamic beach

This dynamic beach is very difficult to photograph completely. It is thus necessary to make a choice, either one selected correctly expose the zone of strong light (in this case the remainder of the photograph appears black in Chinese shade) or one chooses to expose the zones correctly darkest (in this strong case the light will be completely burned).

These problems rejected the photo hobbyists a long time, but with the advent of numerical the things changed and it is much easier to make experiments. There exist 3 solutions to apprehend this dynamics:

  • the Chinese shades or silhouettes can give very successful photographs.

  • To use the technique of the rope to clarify the dark parts of the image.
  • To make several photographs with various exposures to join together them and give a photograph HDR
