Bacillus stearothermophilus
Bacillus stearothermophilus is a Bactérie with positive Gram in the shape of stick. It is motile, product of the spores and is Thermophile. Is generally used it to check the good performance of sterilizers to the vapor like the otoclave, since the bacteria sporulantes are more resistant in general and that the thermophilous ones tolerate well with heat. Thus, if there remain cells of Bacillus stearothermophilus and/or spores of this organization which are still viable after having heated in the otoclave with 121 degrees Celsius during 15 minutes, one knows that the otoclave does not function well.
