A bacillus is a Bactérie of form lengthened known as “in stick”, in opposition to the form Cocci (“round”).

The shape of the bacteria is one of the criteria making it possible to classify them.

The bacilli according to their kind, can organize different way:

• chains of it (ex: Lactobacillus , bacterium commensale of the vagina)
• palisades of it (ex: Corynebacterium )
• in Y (ex: Bifidobacterium )
