Babism
The Babisme is a reforming movement of the Chiisme duodécimain.
Its principles were proclaimed on May 23rd 1844, with Chiraz (Iran) by Sayyid Ali Muhammad (1819-1850), known under the name of Bab (باب in Arab, “carries”) because he regarded himself as “the door leading towards the knowledge of the divine truth”. Contrary to the dominant Moslem beliefs, Bab affirmed that the prophets were manifestations of the divinity and that itself was not only a Prophète but also the equal one of Mahomet. It repeals various provisions of the Koranic law and establishes a news Qibla towards the residence of Bâb instead of Mecque.
These declarations are particularly sacrileges for the Moslems, who regard Mahomet as the “seal” (khatim), the largest last and of all the prophets. The babists are thus not regarded as Moslem “truths”. What was worth to them many persecutions at the time of the sovereigns Qadjar in Iran, generally on the initiative of the Uléma S.
The babis gathered around two large disciples Mirza Yahyâ “Sobh-e Azal” and his/her half-brother Mirza Hosaynali Nuri “Baha' ullah”. The community was divided into two groups: the bahaï and azalis. The bahaïs according to Baha' ullah in a new religion the Bahâ' ism, are much more numerous today than the azalis become very minority and remained faithful to the original babism.
