BMW films
BMW films , subsidiary of BMW, is a producer especially known Cinéma tographic for its series of short films The Hire putting in the high-speed motorboat Clive Owen.

The series began with five short films of approximately eight minutes each one, conceived for and diffused in Internet as from the summer 2001. Each one was directed either by a promising Cinéaste, or by a scenario writer veteran. All the films put in the high-speed motorboat Clive Owen which incarnates The Driver (“the Driver”, in French). Each film also emphasizes the performances of a BMW car. For this reason, they are regarded as an effort of Positionnement marketing by the means of the cinema.
History
Season 1
The series quickly became popular, so much so that BMW films produced a free DVD. The owners of BMW cars could also order one of them which came with supplements. At the beginning, the promotion of the DVD was done in an abstract way. Some copies were distributed to Concession naires BMW and in Magazine S of cars. Several dealers were unaware of that BMW had produced such short films.To obtain a copy of the DVD, it was necessary to pass to the Web site of BMW films and to transmit its address to the Webmaster. The copies were distributed with parsimony and their existence was generally mentioned word of mount, which made rare and invaluable objects of them. Some were put at the biddings on EBay. Later, BMW films decided to sell the copies directly.
The first copies included the first five short films of the series. Thereafter, The Follow was withdrawn due to royalties.
Season 2
Within sight of the success of films of season 1, BMW films produced three other films in 2002. The executive producers were Ridley Scott and Tony Scott. The three short films emphasize the BMW Z4, always with Clive Owen in the role of the Driver .BMW films sold eight films on the same DVD, including The Follow , for the price of forwarding, the same one it does not matter the place on planet. They are not distributed any more since October 21st, 2005, but YouTube and Dailymotion diffuses them.

Anecdotes
Nissan tried to benefit from the success of this series by producing a short film with an aim of emphasizing the 350Z. Heading The Run and directed by John Bruno, it is influenced by the automobile races undergrounds as shown in the film Getaway in Stockholm . Presented in the cinemas in November 2002 before principal film, it had notably less success than the short films of the series The Hire .Dark Horse Comics published a humorous pastiche of the series.
