The BMW Z3 is a model of roadster and half-compartment of the Car manufacturer BMW.

The Z3 was the first roadster has success of BMW. Z3 was the first designed vehicle then produced in only 36 months. It was also the first BMW vehicle with being built out of Germany. Indeed Z3 were manufactured in the United States with the factory of Spartanburg, in South Carolina. The last of Z3 was built in Spartanburg on June 28th, 2002. The production had begun 7 years before in autumn 1995. The first vehicles had been delivered to their purchasers in May 1996, and 15.000 Z were built since 1996. The launching of the vehicle was underlined by the choice of Z3 like conveys James Bond, in the film Goldeneye , since 1995. Pierce Brosnan, in the role from “007”, led a model 1.8. In April 1999, signed vehicles of exception " M" transfer the day (to read further). During the seven years of production, almost 300.000 Z3 cars were produced and diffused in 120 countries.

Z3 M
“ M ” like Motorsport , the subsidiary company of BMW dedicated to the automobile competition. Motorsport is charged by BMW with manufacturing the sporting models of the range. Moreover Motorsport manages all the competition activity of BMW (Formule 1, racing, races 24 hours, etc). In the range of the commercial models of BMW, the Motorsport models are signed by the famous " M" .
Whereas Z is in since September 1995 production, the roadster " M" was presented in 1996 to the Living room of Geneva. The Half-compartment " M" was presented to the living room of Frankfort in Germany in 1997. The production of these models was undertaken with one year of shift compared to this presentation with the public, then their production was completed in May - June 2002.
In addition to the new motorizations " M" and their principal mechanical consequences (double line of exhaust, travelling trains, etc), Z3 " M" is characterized by an external design with some signatures stylistics seeking to make it more aggressive (side grids of ventilation, oval rear view mirrors, front avoid-shock, number plate postpones moved between fires…). Interior of the " M" is characterized per many details with mainly of the specific seats and the three additional dials established on the central console. The “line chromium” intervenes in accompaniment of the interior equipment as well as the logo " M" .
As regards motorization, the model “M” of Roadster and Z3 Half-compartment uses one six cylinders with 24 valves resulting from a development intended for m3 of the type E36 then E46 as from 2001. Compared to the others roadsters Z3, the model “M” has also a frame especially adapted and some specific options. There were three various versions of the roadster " M" : the European model is “more exotic on the right” with a S50 engine of 3201 cm ³ (S50 B32) declined in control and control on the left, and an American model with control, been driven on the left by a S52 engine of 3152 cm ³. The European model (S50 B32) offers a power of 321 Horses whereas the American model (S52) offers 240 horses. The two versions have electronically attached maximum speeds. The gear boxes are identical in the two versions. In fact the engine resulting from the E46 block was driving was deflated of 343 with 325 ch, due to insufficiency on the level of the travelling train. As from February 2001 a motorization S54 exit of m3 E46 intervenes then in Europe as in the USA to replace S50 and S52. This S54 block is a technological change of European S50, offering 325 ch starting from several modifications, of which an increase in the boring (which passes from 86,1 to 87 mm). In accompaniment of this passage to S54, the vehicles are equipped with a version “M” of the dynamic control system (DSC) with an electronics BMW-SIEMENS integrated into the driving control of management. This evolution of system called ASC (Automatic Stability Control plus Traction, ASC+T) deals with the understeer and oversteer tendencies of the vehicle by managing the individual braking of each wheel. This system is disengageable since the driver's cab.
The differences of frame with Z3 six cylinders are the following ones: MacPherson suspensions, ways before and back broader, lowering, of the case, geometry before modified suspension, springs and shock absorbers firmer, thicker anti-roll bars, reinforced arms of towing, trussed frame. At the time of the passage to S54, the frame was still improved with the suspensions and shock absorbers even stiffer developed for the half-compartment Mr.
Some modifications of equipment accompany the passage by the roadster in S54. For the half-compartment this evolution does not carry any modification of frame which is more rigid by construction of origin. The models “M” intended for the US market as from February 2001 offer a power of 320 ch (SAE) and the European model 325 ch (DIN). This small variation of power is ascribable with the differences in catalytic standards of pots to the exhaust between Europe and the United States.
The production of Z3 was stopped in June 2003 after the sale of 300.000 specimens in 120 countries of the world, to leave room to the BMW Z4.
