BMW K1

The K1 is a model of motor bike, created by the German firm BMW.

When K1 appears in 1988, it is initially a visual shock. Esthetics changes radically compared to the other productions of the mark. The lines are very aerodynamic, the critics comparing even the motor bike with TGV. The enormous rectangular headlight bars the front face, breaking the pointed form that the mudguard suggests. One finds hearing of ventilation a little everywhere, on the sides of Carénage, on the mudguard… Nevertheless, this immense careenage increases the catch with the wind latéral.
At present, this motor bike always has best the Cx.

The colors available also move away from the image of austerity of the Bavarian firm. It was available either in blue, rather discrete, or in bright red. In both cases, the K1 stickers on the sides of careenage, the saddle, the Rim S and the engine are painted in yellow. After these two models, BMW chooses to propose a more discrete model (black graphite) with the request of the French branch, to attract customers choosing more discrétion.
The last hundred models, called " Ultima" will raise a yellow dress Dakar with monograms K1 blacks. But it there also the engine. Although already seen on the models of the K100 series, the four cylinders on line horizontal passed in the hands of a technician coming from the workshops Motorsport GMBH, the sporting branch of BMW, person in charge, amongst other things, of the m3. The number of Soupape S is doubled, producing of this fact the first motor bike four BMW cylinders equipped with sixteen valves, before being begun again on the K1100. The compression ratio passes from 10,2 to 11:1, of many parts are reduced. If the power increases only one ten horses, to reach a maximum with 100  horses with 8  000  tr/min, it is especially the couple which profits from these improvements. It climbs 2  mkg.

The cycle part is also with the endorsement. If the fork remains a standard model, the back suspension is of Paralever type, already seen on R100GS.
K1 is especially the first motor bike with being equipped with ABS.
