Hans Jakob Christoffel von Grimmelshausen (1622? - August 17th 1676), German writer, was born with Gelnhausen in Hesse about 1622 and died in Renchen in the Bade-Wurtemberg, with a score of kilometers of Strasbourg.
It published under a pseudonym in 1668 Der Abenteuerliche Simplicissimus Teutsch , d.h. die Beschreibung of Lebens eines seltsamen Vaganten, awkward Melchior Sternfels von Fuchsheim , known in French like the adventures of Simplicius Simplicissimus, the largest novel of the seventeenth German century, a work of importance close to that of the Don Quichotte of Cervantès. Enough largely autobiographical, writing on the model of the Spanish novels picaresques, Simplicius Simplicissimus tells the absurd and drolatic tribulations of its hero éponyme through the adventures of the Guerre Thirty Year old (1618 - 1648).
Three other important works of Grimmelshausen are complement with Simplicius Simplicissimus :
- Trutz Simplex oder Lebensbeschreibung der Ertzbetrügerin und Landstörtzerin Courasche (1669), the vagrant Courage , from which Bertolt Brecht will draw Mère Courage and her children
- DER seitsame Springinsfeld (1670)
- Das wunderbarliche Vogelnest (1672)
