Bôme
The bôme is a espar which makes it possible to direct the Grand-voile of a sailing boat. Traditionally in Wood, it is now much more often out of aluminum, even out of composite materials like the Carbon fiber for the sailing ships of competition.
The bôme is located in bottom of the mainsail and is articulated with the Mât by the See-of-mule. The hoist of listening of mainsail, located between the hull of the boat and the medium or the back of the bôme, makes it possible to regulate its orientation. The Hauls-low, another Palan struck between the bottom of the mast and the bôme, ensures the vertical tension of the mainsail and prevents the bôme mâter, i.e. to approach the mast. The bôme is often constant at its end by the Balancine, connected to the head of mast. On certain recent sailing ships a rigid tan-low acts at the same time of hauls-low and Balancine.
The orientation of the veil makes it possible to adapt the boat to the Allure wished, according to the direction according to which the boat receives the Vent.
