Bénédictine

The Bénédictine is a Alcoholic drink digestive manufactured with Fécamp in Normandy.

History

The Bénédictine was invented, in the neighborhoods of 1510, starting from 27 Eastern spices and of local plants where enter the Angélique, the Hysope, the Genièvre, the Myrrhe, the saffron, the Macis, the flower of Sapin, the Aloès, the Arnica, the Mélisse, the The, the Thym, the Coriandre, the Girofle, the Citron, the Vanille, the peel of orange, the Miel and grooves, by dom Bernardo Vincelli, a Bénédictin of the monastery of Fécamp where she was appreciated at the court of the king François I {{er}}.

Emptying convents and monasteries, the French revolution stops the manufacturing process and the receipt is lost. In 1863, an industrialist, Alexandre Large the launches out, after having redécouvert by chance the receipt in an old document, in the manufacture of  elixir of health , that it renames “Bénédictine”, in a “palate-factory” of gothico-reappearing style which it makes build for this purpose by the architect Camille Albert.

The immediate success of Bénédictine, whose production reaches close to: 150000 bottles per annum, as of 1873, obliges its creator to fight against the counterfeits of its product. Each bottle of Bénédictine is provided with a stopper carrying the inscription: “True Bénédictine” around, with below initials D.O.M. ( Deo Optimo Maximo , Latin for: With the God, largest, most extremely ), and a broad lead binding around the collar of the bottles with the inscription: “True † Bénédictine”.

The current receipt is always held secret and there are three held specimens hidden in three places different from planet. The marrowy one of the end product requires several processes of distillation and approximately two years of ageing in Fût of Chêne.
