Illustrate family of actors 17th century, the Béjart revolved in the entourage of Molière, and some of them played a big role in its life. It is mainly for this reason that they are still known today.
The father, Joseph Béjart, married the October 6th 1615 Marie Herve with the Saint-Paul church of Paris, and they had many children. The birth dates being unknown, in fact the dates of baptism, undoubtedly very close are indicated below.
- Joseph Béjart (1616 - November 25th, 1658), sometimes called Denis Béjart, sior of Borderie or Béjart elder the ;
- Madeleine Béjart (January 8th, 1618 - 1672)
- Elisabeth (October 1st, 1620 -?)
- Jacques Béjart (February 11th, 1622 -?)
- Anne (March 15th, 1623 -?)
- Genevieve Béjart (July 2nd, 1624 - July 3rd, 1675), known as Miss Herve , then Miss Villaubrun and finally Miss Aubry
- Louis Béjart (December 4th, 1630 - October 13rd, 1678), known as Éguisé or the Lame or Béjart the young person
- Charlotte (August 19th, 1632 -?)
- Benign (November 20th, 1639 -?)
The case of Armande Béjart (1642-1700), wife of Molière, known as Miss Molière , is particular, because one does not know undoubtedly his family ties with the remainder of the phratry. It is not known if it were the sister or the girl of Madeleine. This would not have great importance if Molière, after having been the lover of Madeleine, had not married with Armande. At the time, Molière was even marked of inceste, of calumnies having reported that Armande was his/her own daughter. Molière would have been furnished proof to the king by producing the baptismal certificate of his wife. Unfortunately this act is untraceable today.
Sister or girl of Madeleine, the two assumptions is thus probable, taking into account the birth dates of Armande and Madeleine, as well as date of death of the father, Joseph, in 1643. To note that the attestation of inheritance of the father mentions in the list of the children “small not baptized”.
Finally Madeleine had well an “illegitimate” girl, Francoise, born on July 3rd, 1638, whose father was Esprit of Rémond of Modena, and the godmother her grandmother, Marie Herve.
