Bécancour
Bécancour is a Ville Quebec (Canada) located in the regional Municipalité of county of Bécancour and the administrative area of the Center-of-Quebec. Bécancour also forms part of the metropolitan region of Three-Rivers.
Bécancour is located on southern bank of the Fleuve the St. Lawrence, it also amongst other things includes/understands the valleys of the Rivière Bécancour and the Rivière Gentilly.
History
Origin of the name
The name of Bécancour comes from the first lord from Bécancour, Pierre Robineau, 2nd baron de Portneuf, lord of Bécancour (1654 - 1724). This name would come from the nickname of his/her father, who spelled also Becancourt or Beccancourt at the beginning.
Creation
The town of Bécancour was created on October 17th, 1965 by the fusion of the village of the same name and the following villages:- Gentilly
- Larochelle
- Laval
- Holy-Angele-of-Laval
- Saint-Edouard-with-Gentilly
- Holy-Gertrude
- Saint-Gregoire-the-Large
- Very-Invaluable-Blood-of-Our-Lord
- Villers
