Béatrix Beck

Béatrix Beck is a Belgian écrivaine born the July 30th 1914 with Villars-on-Ollon (Suisse). It is the girl of the poet Christian Beck. After various employment, it becomes the secretary of André Gide which encourages it to write on its experiments, the suicide of her mother, the war, poverty.

Biography

The Belgian Béatrix Beck was born on July 30th, 1914 (by chance in Switzerland) from a father of semi-lettonne/mi-Italian origin and an Irish mother. She grew in France. Having obtained a license in right, it is done communist. Married in 1936 with a Jew stateless person, Naun Szapiro, it loses her husband with the war and, widow with a little girl, it makes odd jobs to earn her living. She publishes in 1948 its first novel, " Barny" , after which André Gide engages it as secretary. Gide dies in 1951, but thanks to " A irrégulière" death; (1950) and " Leo Morin, prêtre" (1952, Price Goncourt) it can buy an apartment in the same building as… Sartre. It is nationalized French in 1955. Still some novels follow, then it leaves for the USA (1966), where it will be professor in Berkeley, in Virginia, in Laval and then in Canada with Sherbrooke, Quebec, and at the Laurentienne university. It is only of return in France, 1977, qu ' it recovers to publish novels, inter alia " Noli" , on the university life in Canada. But it is with " Décharge" that it gains a new fame and the Prix of the Book Inter. Béatrix Beck obtained the Literary prize of Prince Pierre of Monaco for the whole of its work.
